Serve with Echo
TRUNK OR TREAT
We have an opportunity to encourage 240 kids in Walnut Hills who attend the local elementary school. A Douglass teacher we're connected with has organized treats on Halloween and would love our help. We joined last year, and it was a huge encouragement to us and to the school.
There are several ways you can participate:
Bring your car and hand out candy (1-3pm, Oct. 31).
Join an Echo friend's car & pass out candy together.
The majority of children who attend the Douglass school in our neighborhood come from under-resourced homes. Supporting the school is one way we've found to support local families. This also provides joy and support to the amazing staff who serve them daily.
If you plan to attend the trunk or treat on Halloween, please inform Shanté, so we can give a head count to the school. You can also contact her with any questions.
Thanksgiving Exchange with City Gospel Mission
This is a citywide effort we're joining to care for our community. For over 5 years, we've donated to City Gospel Mission’s Thanksgiving Exchange—an opportunity for families to shop for a low-cost holiday meal. Churches and organizations around the region sign up for different items.
This year Echo is committed to donate 200 cans of peaches. You can bring in cans now until November 17th. Reach out to Shanté with any questions.

Serve in the Community
Here are a few events and groups in the Walnut Hills, East Walnut Hills, and Evanston communities surrounding our church where you can get involved and meet new neighbors. Stay updated with local events via our Instagram stories.
peoples pantry
Drop off items anytime
Several churches in our community keep a small pantry stocked with items for any neighbor in need to grab. Any toiletries or non-refrigerated food can be donated. Box is located in the small, lefthand side parking lot of the Cincinnati Church of the Brethren. (Map the location here.)
NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP
First Saturday of every month at 9-11 a.m.
At 9am on the first Saturday of every month, residents of Walnut Hills and Evanston gather to clean up our community. Stay tuned to the East Walnut Hills instagram to see the meetup location for each Saturday clean-up.
Check out Keep Cincinnati Beautiful to find organized clean-ups in your neighborhood.
WALK ON WOODBURN
Second Friday of each month from 5-10 p.m.
Stroll down the Avenue and experience the best local art, shopping, dining, and more in the East Walnut Hills business district. Find more info and events on their Facebook or Instagram. EWH Farmer’s Market is open during the summer months.
Run/Walk groups
Wednesdays and biweekly Thursdays at 6 p.m.
This community event starts and ends at the outdoor tables behind Esoteric Brewery and Decibel Korean Fried Chicken. Park on streets or across at PNC/UC lots. Each week offers several routes (2-5 miles)—you can walk or run all or part of the path with neighbors. Find schedule & routes on Facebook (Wednesdays) or Instagram (Thursdays).
Community Gardens
Gatherings vary by season
Gary Dangel with the Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation oversees several community gardens, and we shared a video about him in one of our services. You can keep up with them and interact directly with others who regularly care for the local gardens on their Facebook page.
